Turning hoops and hot wheels into hope.

A personal appeal by Ryan Laurin of ASPAC Developments

Dear Readers

I recently had the privilege of visiting Canuck Place Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. I was deeply moved by the incredible care that allows children to spend precious time with family, when illness has shortened their lives together. The ASPAC family wants to help — and we have found the perfect partner in Ian Walker and his Cars and Hoops Foundation.

About Cars and Hoops Foundation Founder Ian Walker

Ian’s philanthropic journey began during his student days at the International School of Beijing (ISB). At ISB, Ian spearheaded fundraising in support of breast cancer research and early-stage mammogram screenings.

As a proud Vancouverite and graduate of UBC, Ian felt inspired to continue his philanthropic activities after learning of the severe impact the pandemic had on local charities. Apart from his philanthropy, Ian has two passions — fast cars and basketball! So it seemed logical to Ian to launch the Cars and Hoops Foundation. ASPAC is proud to support its inaugural charity festival on July 9th, 2022 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

We look forward to supporting Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in providing important palliative care to children in BC by raising vital funds.

I’m asking you to come down and make sure we blast through our $50,000 fundraising target. Remember — this is for kids and their families at Canuck Place. It’s one of the few places kids with short lives can go for medical respite and family support, pain and symptom management, music and recreation therapy, education and art, grief, loss, and bereavement counselling, as well as end-of-life care — all under one roof.

All at no cost to families. That’s why we need to fundraise. What else would you be doing on July 9th that is as meaningful as this. Save the date. I’m going to start the (basket)ball rolling with a donation of my own … who’s in?
